SchluterKERDI/KERDIKEBA
Application and Function:
SchluterKERDI is a crack-bridging waterproofing membrane made from soft-set polyethylene, equipped on both sides with a special fleece fabric for effective anchoring in tile adhesive.
For easy cutting, SchluterKERDI is provided with a cutting grid on one side. In addition to the residual quantity indication, the minimum overlap width of 5 cm for the processing of the membranes with each other is shown.
SchluterKERDI was developed as a bonded waterproofing with coverings and layers of tiles and slabs and has, according to a German-approved certification, an abP general building authority test certificate and is marked with a CE symbol. Moisture exposure class according to abP: 0 B0 as well as A, B, and C.
SchluterKERDI has a European Technical Assessment (ETA) for bonded waterproofing according to ETAG 022 and is marked with a CE mark.
The waterproofing membrane is glued onto a flat substrate with an appropriate tile adhesive. Tiles can be directly laid on SchluterKERDI using the thin-bed method. Other suitable trowelable covering materials or plaster layers can also be applied.
SchluterKERDI DS is a waterproofing membrane and vapor barrier bonded with a tile covering, e.g., for use in swimming pools and wellness areas, as well as for industrial areas with increased humidity.
Vapor barriers can also be useful on moisture-sensitive substrates such as wood, plasterboard, or gypsum plaster.
In addition to SchluterKERDI, interior and exterior corners as well as pipe sleeves are available. To seal junctions or corner connections, the SchluterKERDIKEBA band is offered in widths of 8.5 / 12.5 / 15 / 18.5 / 25 cm.
For sealing movement joints or flexible edge joints, SchluterKERDIFLEX is available in widths of 12.5 cm or 25 cm.
Processing:
- The substrate must be free of adhesion-inhibiting components, load-bearing, and flat. Any leveling measures must be carried out before installing SchluterKERDI.
- The choice of adhesive with which SchluterKERDI is processed depends on the type of substrate. The adhesive must adhere to the substrate and mechanically lock into the fleece of SchluterKERDI. For most substrates, a hydraulically setting thin-bed mortar can be used. Compatibility issues between materials should be checked if necessary.
Note: For areas requiring building authority approval, only system-tested thin-bed mortars should be used. These can be inquired about at the address specified in this data sheet. - The thin-bed mortar is applied with a notched trowel, recommended 3 x 3 mm or 4 x 4 mm.
- The pre-cut membranes of SchluterKERDI are fully embedded into the applied adhesive with the fleece. To press in, the smooth side of the notched trowel or a smoothing trowel pressed under pressure over the KERDI membrane is recommended. Air inclusions must be avoided. The open time of the adhesive must be observed.
- KERDI membranes are overlapped at joints by at least 5 cm with SchluterKERDICOLLL or butted and fully bonded with SchluterKERDIKEBA using the sealing adhesive KERDICOLLL.
- Pre-fabricated KERDI corners are used for interior and exterior corners. For corner connections, SchluterKERDI band should be bonded accordingly. For pipe penetrations, SchluterKERDIKM pipe sleeves are to be glued in. Connections to fixed installation parts can also be made functionally. Depending on the construction site situation, SchluterKERDI, KERDI band, or KERDIFLEX can be used to create a tight connection with SchluterKERDIFIX to the adjoining component.
- In the area of thin-bed floor drains, a cut as an connection sleeve of 50 x 50 cm from SchluterKERDI is clamped into the flange of the floor drain or sealed with it. The adjacent SchluterKERDI membrane is brought up to about 10 cm from the floor drain and sealed without voids onto the connection sleeve.
Note on floor drainage:
Special floor drains for bonded waterproofing have been developed with SchluterKERDIDRAIN and SchluterKERDILINE. SchluterKERDI can be quickly and securely processed here using the corresponding SchluterKERDI sleeves. - SchluterKERDI must be separated at existing movement joints or construction separation joints and overlapped with SchluterKERDIFLEX at the joints. For flexible edge finishes, SchluterKERDIFLEX should also be used. Alternatively, SchluterKERDI band can be used if a corresponding loop is formed.
- Once the entire bonded waterproofing, including overlaps, corners, and connections, is sealed with adhesive, the covering can be applied. No waiting time is necessary.
- For tile laying, hydraulically setting thin-bed mortar is applied directly onto SchluterKERDI, and the tiles are embedded largely flush with it. Suitable reaction resin adhesives and grout mortars should be used for chemically resistant coverings.
For areas where CE conformity or according to abP general building authority test certificate is required, only system-tested thin-bed mortars should be used. The thin-bed mortars and the corresponding certificates can be inquired about at the address specified in this data sheet.
