Substrate Preparation
Before laying ceramic and natural stone coverings
- The substrate must be firm, clean, and load-bearing. Remove all stains, surfaces that reduce adhesion, and contaminants completely.
- The substrate must be even; screeds must comply with DIN 18560 and be suitable for laying ceramic or natural stone coverings.
- Highly absorbent cement substrates should be primed with PCI Gisogrund 1, diluted with water.
- Sanded anhydrite or gypsum liquid screeds, gypsum-bound screed elements, and cast asphalt screeds with un-diluted PCI Gisogrund should be primed.
- For time-sensitive work, cementitious and gypsum-containing substrates should be primed with PCI Gisogrund Rapid. Allow the primer to dry.
- Anhydrite or gypsum liquid screeds must not have more than 2% residual moisture, measured with CM device.
- To prevent sound bridges, prior to laying PCI Pecilastic U, the joint in the wall-floor transition area and around pillars should be reworked with the self-adhesive edge strip PCI Pecitape Silent.
- Old floor coverings: When replacing old coverings such as carpets, PVC, or linoleum with ceramic or natural stone coverings, remove the old coverings and any loose adhesive residues. Subsequently, thoroughly clean the prepared surface, including residual adhesive, with PCI Gisogrund. After drying, fill voids, holes, or wide cracks with PCI Nanocret FC (1 to 10 mm) or PCI Nanocret R2 (3 to 100 mm). If necessary, level remaining unevenness with PCI Periplan.
- Old ceramic, stone, or natural stone coverings: For laying PCI Pecilastic U on old ceramic or natural stone coverings, ensure the old covering is securely bonded. Remove hollow tiles and fill gaps with PCI Rapidflott or PCI Nanocret R2. Large areas should be primed with PCI Gisogrund 404 and leveled with PCI Periplan.
- Old wooden floors: The wooden structure must be sufficiently load-bearing, vibration-free, and free of swelling. Screw down loose boards. Level uneven boards by injecting PCI Adaptol into the joints and waiting about 1 hour for a firm surface. Prime twice with PCI Gisogrund 404, diluted with water, allowing each coat to dry. Level with PCI Periplan Extra. The following work can be performed the next day.
- Wood chipboard or OSB boards on old wooden floors: Level unevenness as described above. Screw the boards with a maximum spacing of 40 cm, and glue joints if necessary. Prime with PCI Wadian. Allow to dry.
- Substrate preparation for parquet with PCI PAR 365 system on moist calcium sulfate anhydrite screeds: The screeds must meet DIN 18560 and be suitable for parquet installation. Approved screeds include those with residual moisture up to 15% CM, from CASEA GmbH and Knauf Gipswerke KG. The substrate must be clean, free of stains, fats, and other residues that impair adhesion, solid, even, and free of continuous cracks. Hairline cracks do not require special treatment when using PCI Pecilastic U. Any residual paint, adhesive, filler, or loose surface layers should be sanded and thoroughly vacuumed. The residual moisture of calcium sulfate screeds may be up to 15%, measured with a CM device. Anhydrite screeds must be sanded and carefully vacuumed. No primer is required before applying PCI PAR 365, only bonding of PCI Pecilastic U.
Bonding Old Ceramic, Stone, or Natural Stone Coverings
- Ensure the old covering is securely bonded. Remove hollow tiles and fill gaps with PCI Rapidflott or PCI Nanocret R2. Prime large areas with PCI Gisogrund 404 and level with PCI Periplan.
Old Wooden Floors
- The wooden structure must be sufficiently load-bearing, vibration-free, and free of swelling. Screw down loose boards. Level uneven boards by injecting PCI Adaptol into the joints and waiting about 1 hour for a firm surface. Prime twice with PCI Gisogrund 404, diluted with water, and level with PCI Periplan Extra. The subsequent work can be performed the next day.
Substrate Preparation for Laying Parquet with PCI PAR 365 System on Moist Calcium Sulfate Anhydrite Screeds
- The screeds must meet DIN 18560 and be suitable for parquet installation.
- Approved screeds include those with residual moisture up to 15% CM from CASEA GmbH and Knauf Gipswerke KG.
- The substrate must be clean, free of stains, fats, and other residues that impair adhesion, solid, even, and free of continuous cracks.
Processing
- For ceramic and natural stone coverings: Lay PCI Pecilastic U and cut to size with a utility knife or scissors.
- Apply PCI Flexmörtel S1 or PCI Flexmörtel S1 Rapid, PCI Nanolight, or PCI Nanoflott light to the prepared substrate with a 4 mm or 6 mm notched trowel according to technical standards.
- On anhydrite screeds with residual moisture between 0.5% and 2%, PCI PAR 365 can be used without primer or with PCI Lastogum (pre-primed with PCI Gisogrund). Apply PCI Lastogum either thickly or with a 4 mm notched trowel.
- Within the open time of the adhesive, approximately 30 minutes for PCI Flexmörtel, PCI Nanolight, and PCI Nanoflott light, and about 20 minutes for PCI Flexmörtel Schnell, lay the PCI Pecilastic U membranes and press them in, with the orange fleece facing up.
- In dry areas, tape over the joints with adhesive tape (e.g., Tesakrepp 20 mm wide).
- In wet areas or exterior zones, seal the membrane joints, corner joints, and floor-wall transitions with PCI Pecitape 120, bonding it with PCI Seccoral 1K2K Rapid, and press in.
- In the final case C, bond the sealing strips PCI Pecitape 120 or PCI Pecitape IA 90 with PCI Apoflex or PCI DuraPox NT NT Plus.
- After the curing of the adhesive mortar (about 12 hours for PCI Flexmörtel S1, PCI Nanolight, PCI Nanoflott light; about 3 hours for PCI Flexmörtel S1 Rapid), the top covering can be installed.

Processing of Multi-layered Parquet with PCI PAR 365 System on Moist Calcium Sulfate Anhydrite Screeds
- Use approved screeds with residual moisture up to 15% CM from CASEA GmbH and Knauf Gipswerke KG.
- Use only approved parquet types, e.g., 2- and 3-layer parquet elements, fully bonded as per manufacturer specifications.
- Apply PCI PAR 365 adhesive with a trowel (B 3) within a working time of approximately 45 minutes.
- Lay pre-cut PCI Pecilastic U membranes into the adhesive bed, pressing and rubbing in thoroughly, with the orange fleece facing up.
- Seal the joints with adhesive tape (e.g., Tesakrepp 20 mm wide).
- Allow the adhesive to cure for about 24 hours at 23°C and 50% relative humidity before installing the parquet elements with PCI PAR 365.
- The minimum distance to walls and other protruding elements must be at least 15 mm. In the edge areas, do not seal the joints or skirting boards to allow residual moisture to escape.
