Substrate
The substrate must be solid, load-bearing, and free of cracks. Loose or non-load-bearing surface layers, extremely dense or smooth substrates, cement screeds, separation layers (e.g., dirt, dust, grease, paint residues, etc.) must be removed and/or roughened (e.g., blasting process). When installing with concrete stones, ceramic tiles, and panels in thin-bed method, the maximum moisture content of the substrate must not be exceeded:
- Unheated cement-bound substrates max. 20 CM
- Heated cement-bound substrates max. 18 CM
- Calcium sulfate-bound substrates max. 0.5 CM
- Heated calcium sulfate-bound substrates max. 0.3 CM
Before applying the material, the substrate must be primed with an appropriate primer. The specific mixing ratio depends on the substrate and can be found in the corresponding data sheet.
All protruding components (e.g., wall connections, thresholds, etc.) must be provided with edge strips of 8 mm width.
Processing
Mix in a clean container with cold tap water, free of lumps, to a homogeneous consistency. Recommended mixing device: a stirrer with a spiral or double-disc mixer at approx. 600 rpm. After a maturation time of about 3 minutes, briefly remix and process. Apply according to DIN 18157 Part 1. Only apply as much mortar as can be pressed into the fresh adhesive bed with ceramic tiles and panels. Movement joints must not be covered with mortar.
The material consumption depends on the condition of the substrate, the handling of the tool, and the type of ceramic material processed:
- 4 mm notch: approx. 15 kg/m
- 6 mm notch: approx. 2 kg/m
- 8 mm notch: approx. 27 kg/m
- 10 mm notch: approx. 33 kg/m
