Prerequisites:
Stable, load-bearing substrate, joint depth at full stone height min 20 mm,
joint width min 3 mm, preferably 5 mm, max 25 mm, object temperature ? 5 °C, max 25 °C

Tools:
Free-fall mixer, preferably forced mixer, suitable for small areas, pipework, water hose, spray nozzle adjustable or bucket nozzle, rubber trowel, scrub brush, sponge board, roller wash set or washing machine

Preparation:
Secure loose stones, protect channel inlets against ingress of joint material, clean the surface to be jointed thoroughly, remove loose components from joints and stone edges

Test Surface:
Cement-based joint mortars are subject to natural aging. To counteract this, the products are set to harden faster from the factory. This ensures processability throughout the entire shelf life. Therefore, the reaction speed should be checked before jointing. Contact between vdw 400 plus Color and natural or concrete stone surfaces may cause optical changes, such as darkening and/or staining. We generally recommend creating a test surface.

Preconditions:
Pre-wet surfaces. For natural stones with rough surfaces, concrete stones, or absorbent paving stones, pre-wet the surface very thoroughly before applying vdw 400 plus Color. Standing water in the joints must be avoided.

Mixing the joint mortar:
In a clean mixing container, add 4.5 – 5.0 L of water per 25 kg sack of vdw 400 plus Color and mix for about 2 minutes to achieve a homogeneous, slumpable mortar.

Filling the joints:
Apply mortar to the surface and draw it fully over the paving with a rubber trowel, working it intensively into the joints. Insert the mortar so that the joint cross-section is completely filled. Remove excess mortar with the rubber trowel.

Cleaning:
Attention: Avoid over-hardening of the joint material on the stone surface. After sufficient hardening time, joint pressure test should be performed after approximately 25 minutes at 20 °C. Clean the paving diagonally to the joint cross-section with a washing machine, scrub brush, spray nozzle, or bucket nozzle without washing out the joints. Finally, rinse the stone surface free of residues with a spray jet. After 46 hours, the joints are walkable. After approximately 48 hours, they can be driven over with a car, and they are fully loadable after 7 days.
