vdw 400 plus cement jointing mortar
Product description:
vdw 400 plus Color is a cementitious, polymer-modified, fast-setting jointing mortar for grouting natural stone and concrete paving slabs for both indoor and outdoor use, for light to heavy traffic loads. vdw 400 plus Color can, for example, be used for paving the terrace and the driveway as well as for jointing mortar for roads.
- high frost/salt-de-icing resistance
- highly flowable
- self-compacting
- compressive strength approx. 50 N/mm²
- environmentally friendly
- MPA tested!
Requirements:
Stable, load-bearing substrate, joint depth full stone height (min. 20 mm), joint width min. 3 mm, preferably 5 mm, max. 25 mm, object temperature ≥ 5 °C, max. 25 °C.
Tools:
Free-fall mixer, preferably forced-action mixer, mixing attachment suitable for small areas, water hose, spray nozzle adjustable or fan nozzle, rubber screed, scrubber, sponge board, roller washing set or washing machine.
Preparation:
Secure loose stones firmly in place. Protect channel drains against penetration of jointing material. Clean the area to be grouted without leaving any residue. Clean joints and stone edges/flanks of any loose components.
Test area:
Cement-based jointing mortars are subject to the natural ageing process. To counteract this, the products are set to cure faster at the factory. This ensures workability over the entire shelf life. Therefore, the reaction rate must be checked before grouting. For natural stone and concrete paving slabs, optical changes such as dark discolouration and/or spotting may occur due to contact between vdw 400 plus Color and the stone surface. In general, we recommend creating a test area.
Pre-wetting:
Pre-wet the surfaces. For natural stones with a rough surface, concrete paving blocks or absorbent paving stones, the surface must be pre-wetted very thoroughly before applying vdw 400 plus Color. Standing water in the joints must be avoided.
Mixing jointing mortar:
In a clean mixing vessel, add 4.5 - 5.0 L of water per 25-kg bag. Add vdw 400 plus Color and mix for approx. 2 minutes to obtain a homogeneous, slurry-capable mortar.
Filling the joints:
Apply the mortar to the surface and pull it fully over the paving using a rubber screed, working it intensively into the joints. Apply the mortar in such a way that the joint cross-section is completely filled. Remove excess jointing mortar with the rubber screed.
Cleaning:
Attention: Avoid the jointing material hardening too strongly on the stone surface. After sufficient curing time, Joint pressure test (after approx. 25 min. at 20 °C), wash the paving diagonally to the joint cross-section clean using a washing machine, scrubber, spray nozzle or fan nozzle, without washing out the joints. Finally, use a spray jet to clean the stone surface again without leaving any residue. After 4-6 hours, the jointed areas can be walked on. After approx. 48 hours, they can be driven on by car; fully load-bearing after 7 days.
