PCI Middle Bed and Bedding Mortar for Natural Stone and Fine Stoneware
Product Properties
- Plastically flexible laying mortar that is only distributed with a sufficiently large notch trowel, such as a middle bed trowel
- Deformable, compensates for temperature fluctuations and substrate stresses
- Adheres without priming or priming on concrete, cement screed, and cement plaster
- Effective crystalline water binding, making it particularly suitable for large-format ceramic tiles
- Low shrinkage, even with mortar layer thicknesses up to 4 cm, preventing shrinkage stresses between PCI Carrament and natural stone tiles
- Durably water-resistant and frost-proof, suitable for interior and exterior use on walls and floors
- Fast setting, reduces moisture absorption during installation, preventing efflorescence
- Fast hardening, walkable and grouting-ready after approximately 6 hours, fully loadable after about 1 day
- In white, no show-through of the adhesive bed with white marble when installed using the combined buttering-floating method
- PCI Carrament complies with classification C2F according to DIN EN 12004
- EMICODE EC 1 PLUS
- Color: white
- Packaging: 25 kg sack
Application Area
- For interior and exterior use
- For walls and floors
- For laying natural stone tiles, including sheet material
- For large-format fine stoneware tiles
- For leveling uneven substrates prior to installation
- White PCI Carrament also suitable for laying sewer pipe bricks in wastewater structures
- For stairs and house sills in residential areas, on electric underfloor heating, heated screeds, balconies, terraces, halls, and rooms, as well as in industrial buildings, institutions, service, and administrative buildings
Substrate Preparation
- Minimum substrate age: PCI Novoment Z1 or PCI Novoment M1plus screed 24 hours
- PCI Novoment Z3 or PCI Novoment M3plus screed 3 days
- Cement screed 28 days
- Concrete 3 months
The substrate must be dry, free of dust, and load-bearing. Highly absorbent cement substrates should be primed with PCI Gisogrund 1 diluted with water. Sanded anhydrite or gypsum, liquid screeds, and cast asphalt screeds indoors should be primed with undiluted PCI Gisogrund. For time-sensitive work, cementitious and gypsum-containing substrates should be primed with PCI Gisogrund Rapid. Allow primer to dry. Cement screeds should not exceed 4% residual moisture, anhydrite screeds should not exceed 0.5%.
Application of PCI Carrament
Preparation of Mortar
Pour the required amount of water into a clean mixing container. Add PCI Carrament and mix with a suitable stirring or mixing tool attached to a drill until a homogeneous, lump-free mortar is achieved. After a maturation time of approximately 3 minutes, briefly remix again.
Laying Natural Stone Tiles
Apply PCI Carrament section-wise to the substrate, draw a contact layer. Using a middle bed trowel or another suitable notched trowel that allows for full mortar coverage, spread as much mortar as can be covered with natural stone within the open time. Check the open time with a finger test. Lay tiles with a slight sliding movement to achieve a fully bedded, even joint.
Adhesive Method
PCI Carrament can also be used for setting large-format natural stone tiles on walls, such as for stairs, steps, or sills. Apply mortar in the desired thickness to both the substrate and the back of the tiles using a middle bed trowel or spatula. Position the natural stone tile, align, and if necessary, wedge. Ensure only as much mortar is applied as can be covered with tiles within the open time. Check the open time with a finger test. Applying PCI Carrament to the back of the tiles prevents show-through of the adhesive joints and allows for a largely hollow-space-free installation.
Grouting
For joint widths from 1 to 8 mm
Special Cases
- Plastic jointing for polished natural stones with PCI Flexfug, joint widths from 2 to 10 mm, color: sand gray, 3 to 15 mm
- PCI Rapidfug for joint widths from 1 to 10 mm
If working with non-sensitive natural stones, consulting PCI is recommended. The following PCI joint mortars can also be used for joint widths from 2 to 8 mm: PCI FT Fugengrau, PCI FT Fugenweiß, and for joint widths from 5 to 20 mm: PCI FT Fugenbreitliup. Elastic joints, corner joints, floor-wall, wall-wall, wall-ceiling, and connection joints, as well as installation parts, can be formed with PCI Carraferm for elastic jointing.
