PCI Visconal Oil Tank Protection Coating for Sealing Oil Tanks

Product features:

• Protects groundwater, permanently seals collection trays and rooms against heating oil EL, diesel fuel with = 0,5 % biological content, and transformer oils.
• Crack-bridging, subsequently covers cracks in the substrate up to 0,2 mm crack width.
• Easy to clean, spilled heating oil EL or transformer oil can be effortlessly vacuumed or wiped off from the PCI Visconal coating without residue.

Application areas:

Substrate pre-treatment:

• Prerequisites
  > Settlement and shrinkage cracks in the enclosing walls and the floor of the collection trays and rooms must be prevented through structural measures.
  > Expansion joints in collection trays are not permitted. If expansion joints are present, please request separate advice.
  > Water impact on the back of the coating must be avoided; seal appropriately if necessary. DIN 18 195 - Construction waterproofing - Design and execution applies here. Concrete, plaster, and screed surfaces must be at least 28 days old, dry, load-bearing, and free of defects. The substrate must be firm, rough, grippy, and have a fine-pored surface. It must be free of nests, cavities, cracks, ridges, dust, tar, pitch, bitumen, old coatings, or other adhesion-reducing layers. Edges should be broken.
• The substrate must not be powdery or sandy. Plaster and screed must adhere firmly to load-bearing components or enclosing walls and the floor. The surface should not be trowelled with a steel trowel but rubbed with a wooden board.
  > Cement dusting is not permitted. Masonry and concrete surfaces that do not meet these conditions must be coated with a firmly adhering cement plaster.
  > Pipe penetrations below the maximum possible liquid level and movement joints are not permitted!
  > Only when the above structural prerequisites are met may the coating be applied.
  > The surface must be inspected and approved by the applicator before applying the coating!
• Pre-treatment
  > Mechanical cleaning with a stiff broom, wire brush, or industrial vacuum cleaner. If defects need to be repaired, the following PCI construction materials can be used: Adhesive PCI Pecihaft, corrosion protection PCI Legaran RP, repair mortar PCI Nanocret R4/R2, concrete filler PCI Nanocret FC, and in the floor area PCI Repa­ment or PCI Periplan.
  > Internal corners should be formed as fillets with PCI Repa­fix.

Application of PCI Visconal:

• For an oil-tight coating, at least a primer and two top coats are required. To make the number of coats visible, the second and subsequent coats should be applied only so far up the wall that a strip of 1 cm width from the previous coat remains visible.
  > Each coat must be applied pore-free and sealed, and must dry thoroughly.
  Primer:
  • Thin PCI Visconal grey with 50 % water (volume ratio 2 : 1) and thoroughly brush into the substrate.
  • Allow the primer coat to dry for at least 8 hours (at + 23 °C).

Coating

• • Apply the first top coat of undiluted PCI Visconal red with a brush to the primed surface. Allow at least 8 hours to dry.
  • After drying the first top coat, apply PCI Visconal grey undiluted as the second top coat.
  • After at least 7 days, the coating is completely dry and load-bearing.
