ARDEX R 1 Renovation Putty
Application Area:
Smoothing and filling wall and ceiling surfaces for the adhesion of wallpapers, paints, dispersion plasters, and wall coverings
Filling cracks, deep holes, slots, and joints in gypsum boards and other construction panels
Sealing joints in precast concrete ceilings
For indoor use
Type:
White powder made from special cements and elastifying plastic powders
The powder is mixed with water to form a smooth, lump-free, and workable mass that can be easily troweled and remains workable for approximately 45 minutes
Dried layers are stress-free and vapor-permeable
ARDEX R1 is non-corrosive
Surface Preparation:
The substrate
- Concrete
- Cement and lime-cement plasters
- Gypsum plasters and gypsum wallboards
- Masonry
- Mineral renderings and synthetic resin-based plasters
- Gypsum boards
- Gypsum fiberboards
- Tiles and panel coverings
- Washable dispersion paints
- Old latex paints
- Acrylic paints
- Acrylic lacquer coatings
- Alkyd resin coatings
- Fiberglass wallpaper
must be dry, firm, load-bearing, and free of dust, dirt, and other separating agents
Old, non-adherent, or weakly bonded coatings as well as loose plasters and wallpapers must be removed
Gypsum-bound substrates should be primed with 1:3 diluted ARDEX 51 adhesion and primer dispersion
Acrylic lacquer coatings, alkyd resin coatings, as well as tiles and panel coverings, should be primed with ARDEX R1
After drying of the initial layer, approximately 30 to 60 minutes later, the finishing layer can be applied in the desired thickness
Application:
In a clean mixing container, add clear water and stir vigorously while adding enough powder to produce a smooth, lump-free, and stiff mortar
Approximately 12.5 liters of water are needed to mix 25 kg of ARDEX R1 powder
Only mix as much material as can be processed within 45 minutes
After a maturation time of 13 minutes and thorough remixing, the mortar remains workable for about 45 minutes at 20°C and can be immediately applied in the desired layer thickness up to 10 mm
Already after approximately 40 to 60 minutes following the troweling, finishing work can begin, depending on the absorbency of the substrate and temperature
To produce sufficiently smooth surfaces for most applications, the mortar layer is sharply troweled off with a smoothing trowel after setting
For especially smooth surfaces, a subsequent smoothing with a slightly damp sponge can be performed within the open time of approximately 50 to 60 minutes
Filling the surface with a sharp trowel is also possible, and higher temperatures shorten, while lower temperatures extend, the setting and finishing times
In case of doubt, test on sample surfaces
ARDEX R 1 should be processed above 5°C
Post-treatment:
At normal temperatures of 18°C to 20°C, even thick layers of filler can dry sufficiently within 1 day to allow painting, wallpapering, and the application of synthetic resin plasters
ARDEX R1 filler layers do not require fluxing. For subsequent work, consider the different absorbency and alkalinity of the substrate
Processing recommendations for paints, wallpapers, dispersion plasters, and wall coverings must be followed
