ARDEX R 1 Renovation filler

Scope of application:
Smoothing and filling of wall and ceiling surfaces for the application of wallpaper, paints, dispersion plasters and wall coverings.
Filling cracks, deep holes, grooves and joints in plasterboard and other building boards.
Sealing joints in concrete prefabricated ceiling elements.
For interior use.

Type:
White powder made from special cements and plastic powder that provides elasticity.
The powder is mixed with water to a workable compound that can be applied easily with a trowel and is processable for approx. 45 minutes.
Once dry, the layers are low in stress and vapour diffusion-permeable.
ARDEX R1 does not promote corrosion.

must be dry, firm, load-bearing and free from dust, dirt and other separating agents.
Old coatings that do not adhere firmly, or are weakly bound, as well as loose renders and wallpaper must be removed.
Gypsum-bonded substrates must be pre-coated with ARDEX 51 adhesion and primer dispersion diluted 1:3 with water.
Acrylic lacquer coatings, alkyd resin coatings as well as tile and panel coverings must be pre-filled thinly with ARDEX R1.
After drying of the pre-filling, after approx. 30 to 60 minutes, the finishing coat is applied to the required layer thickness.

Application:
Add clear water to a clean mixing vessel and, while mixing vigorously, add as much powder as needed to produce a smooth mortar that is free of lumps and stands up properly.
To mix 25 kg of ARDEX R1 powder, approx. 12.5 l of water are required.
Only mix as much material as can be processed within 45 minutes.
After a “slaking time” of 1–3 minutes and then remixing again, the mortar is processable for approx. 45 minutes at +20   °C and can be applied immediately to the required layer thickness up to 10 mm.
Even after approx. 40 to 60 minutes after application of the filler, further finishing can be started, which, depending on the suction capacity of the substrate and the temperature, is possible for approx. 20 – 30 minutes.
For producing sufficiently smooth surfaces for most applications, after it has set slightly the mortar is drawn off sharply with a smoothing trowel.
For especially smooth surfaces, a further smoothing pass can be carried out within the “sponge time” of approx. 50 to 60 minutes using a slightly damp sponge.
It is also possible to skim (trowel-finish) the surface and then draw off sharply again with the smoothing trowel. Higher temperatures shorten, while lower temperatures extend, the setting and further finishing times.
In case of doubt, apply test areas.
Process ARDEX R 1 above +5°C.

After-treatment:
At normal temperature (+18 °C to 20 °C), even thick-layer filler applications will be dried to the point after 1 day that painting and wallpapering work can be carried out and synthetic resin plasters can be applied.
Do not fluate the ARDEX R1 filler layers. For spot filling for subsequent work, take into account the differing suction capacity and alkalinity of the substrate.
