SANDROPLAST Bitumen Putty
Type of product
Plastic elastic medium and fiber-reinforced repair and sealing compound based on bitumen with a paste-like consistency – asbestos-free
Application area
Sandroplast putty is used for repairing and sealing cracks, gaps, and breakage points on bitumen roofing, roof membranes, and in the area of sealing against ground moisture at penetrations and terminations. Sandroplast putty is particularly suitable for sealing cracks, joints, and seams in concrete, precast concrete, masonry, steel, and cast iron pipes of district heating lines, as well as for creating thick barrier layers.
Properties
Sandroplast putty is processed cold, exhibits highly plastic deformation capacity, and adheres well to bitumen roof membranes and coatings, substrates made of concrete, plaster, masonry, non-ferrous metals, and steel. The stresses caused by temperature changes or ground movements are largely absorbed and dissipated. Additionally, it is characterized by the following properties: no running even under intense sunlight and no significant impairment of plastic properties at low temperatures. Sandroplast putty is waterproof and resistant to contaminated mineral oils, lyes, salt solutions, and flue gases. The compound also adheres to damp substrates. Sandroplast putty meets the requirements of AIB DS 835 Appendix II, Column 10. The material properties become fully effective only after complete drying.
Substrate
The substrate to be treated must be clean and dry or damp in construction, free of grease and loose components. Rusted metal surfaces must be de-rusted. Norm purity grade C St 2.
Processing
Sandroplast putty is applied with a spatula or trowel. It is advantageous to apply thicker layers in several working steps with time intervals to accelerate solvent evaporation. Otherwise, excessively thick layers, especially under direct sunlight, may cause bubbling. Fully cut out bubbles in the roof covering, melt the surrounding area, and spackle. Subsequently, coat the exposed areas with sandroplast putty in combination with sandroplast glass fiber fabric. Minor damage in the roof surface can also be repaired with sandroplast putty, possibly using sandroplast glass fiber fabric. If necessary, pre-treat with sandroplast bitumen primer. Let the sandroplast bitumen putty flow flat at the edges.
Consumption
The consumption is approximately 1000 g/m2 for a 1 mm layer thickness.
Storage stability
In original, tightly sealed containers, 12 months.
Storage temperature
The material is not frost-sensitive.
