vdw 520 SplittBinder EP 2K for light traffic loads
Suitable for tree pits, pavements and slab modifications, surface courses, lawn edges and splash protection strips, garden path and terrace edging, driveways, and highly water-permeable surface courses. Also passable for high water throughput surfaces, highly UV resistant, very high resistance to yellowing, also suitable for moist mineral substances, excellent for glass splinters, and offering a broad design spectrum.
Application
vdw 520 SplittBinder EP is suitable for producing a splitt mortar with dust-free mineral substances in the grain sizes 13 mm, 24 mm, 25 mm, 58 mm, 811 mm, and 816 mm. Depending on the grain size, one unit can bind between 25 kg and 40 kg of mineral material, with a maximum of 20 kg of glass splinters.
Prerequisites
- For load-bearing surfaces, a stable sand or gravel bed is required. The thickness of the splitt mortar should be 4 cm in the compacted state.
- For example, for passenger car loads, laying on drainable concrete or mortar bed is necessary. We recommend vdw 480 Bedding Compound.
- The substrate must be dimensioned according to the expected loads. Planar height levels, slope, and flatness must be ensured without residues of existing dirt.
Tools
- Compulsory mixers, forced mixers, free-fall mixers, mortar pumps, shovels, brooms, smoothing tools, and trowels.
Preparation
Surfaces, joint edges, and mineral residues must be cleaned free of dirt.
Test surface
Natural stone and concrete paving can cause visual changes, such as darkening or staining, which may be irreversible, due to contact between vdw 520 SplittBinder EP and the stone surface. Always create test surfaces.
Material preparation
The binder component must be fully added to the mineral material and mixed thoroughly. Subsequently, transfer the mixed material into a clean container and remix. Do not add water.
Mixing time: 5 minutes in a free-fall or forced mixer, 5 minutes in a mortar pump with forced agitator.
Application
Apply the prepared splitt mortar onto the load-bearing layer. Distribute with a shovel and pull off to the appropriate thickness using guides. Compact and smooth the surface.
Post-treatment
Seal and protect the freshly laid surface courses from traffic and weather for at least 12 hours at 20°C. After this period, the surface courses are walkable. Full traffic release of the surface courses occurs after 7 days. Generally, a strength test should be carried out before putting the surface into operation.
