Prima Paving Joint Mortar 1K 25kg
Application Areas
- For bonding in construction
- For grouting of mosaics, small and large paving stones
- For joints with widths from 3 mm
- For watertight grouting of mosaic, small and large paving stones, as well as natural stone, concrete, clinker, outdoor ceramics, and clinker
- Suitable for non-absorbent natural stone slabs
- Only suitable for application on watertight substrates
- For ground surfaces in private areas with foot traffic and occasional vehicle traffic, such as parking lots, garden paths, garage drives, and terraces
Product Properties
- Thixotropic, also suitable for grouting concrete paving and slabs
- Can be water-absorbed, enabling dense joints even with narrow gaps
- 1-component, ready to use immediately
- Weather-resistant and durable
- Resistant to weathering; material does not spall
- Crack and shrink-free setting
- Water-permeable, allowing rainwater to quickly drain into the substrate; surfaces are not fully sealed
- Frost and weather-resistant
Substrate Preparation
- The substructure must be watertight
- The entire paving construction must be designed to withstand actual loads and comply with technical standards
- For moderate loads, installation can be carried out in sand, gravel, or split; in the case of split, careful compaction is essential
- Paving stones and slabs should be embedded approximately 1/3 in the split bed; additional stabilization with sand or crushed stone may be necessary
- Generally, joint mortar cannot compensate for significant movements of paving stones and slabs
- For higher loads, bonded construction with drain mortar, e.g., with drainage mortar, should be used
- Ceramic slabs should be back-primed and set in a drainage mortar; joint areas must be drainage-permeable after installation
- Required joint depths:
- Untrafficked surfaces: at least 30 mm
- Trafficked surfaces: at least 40 mm
- Ceramic slabs set with drainage mortar and back-priming: at least 15 mm
- In case of old paving renovation, joints should be blown out to the required depth, and dirt on the stone edges should be removed
- Before grouting, the surfaces of the paving or slab layers must be thoroughly cleaned until the surface can no longer absorb water; multiple cleaning may be necessary, especially on rough surfaces or in high-temperature conditions
- During processing, the surface must not dry out; intermittent moistening depending on ambient conditions is recommended
Application
- For joints from 3 to 8 mm, apply Prima Paving Joint Mortar 1K onto the wet surface and work into the joints with a firm rubber trowel, pressing firmly. Fill the joint space as completely as possible.
- Immediately after, actively support the filling with a water jet. For particularly narrow joints, direct the water jet precisely along the joints.
- Settled joints can be immediately refilled with fresh material, ensuring the joint is completely and tightly filled to the bottom.
- After applying the mortar into the joints, thoroughly remove excess mortar from the stone surface with a soft broom, e.g., a coconut broom, to prevent material from being pulled out along the joint line, clean diagonally to the joint direction.
- For joints wider than 8 mm, apply Prima Paving Joint Mortar 1K onto the wet surface and work into the joints with a firm rubber trowel, ensuring complete and tight filling to the bottom.
- Remove excess mortar from the stone surface with a soft broom, as described above. Unused fresh material and mortar residues cannot be refilled into the container and should be covered with water, kept moist, and used within a maximum of 4 weeks.
- Apply water to the surface and work into the joints as described.
