  • As a waterproofing layer according to DIN 18533 in water exposure classes W1E and W4E
  • As horizontal waterproofing under a load distribution layer for balconies, loggias, and terraces
  • For sealing components against water attacking concrete according to DIN 4030

Substrate Preparation

When applying PCI Pecimor 1K waterproofing, DIN 18195 and the guidelines for planning and executing waterproofing of underground structures with polymer-modified bitumen thick coatings by the German Construction Chemistry eV must be observed.

Suitable substrates include dense concrete of at least strength class C 12/15, plaster of mortar group C IV according to EN 998-1, masonry made of clay bricks, calcium silicate bricks, lightweight concrete, and concrete hollow blocks, porous concrete.

The substrate must be firm, largely even, and have a fine-pored surface. It must be free of nests, cavities, cracks, burrs, dust, tar, pitch, old coatings, or other adhesion impairments. The substrate should be dry or only slightly moist. Edges should be broken, and corners, both horizontal and vertical, should be rounded. For chamfers, a radius of at least 4 cm should be created with PCI Polyfix Plus L, PCI Nanocret R2, or PCI Saniment DP.

In masonry basements, especially in double-shell construction, the unprotected basement wall crown not covered by the basement ceiling must be protected from water ingress before waterproofing. This can be done after sealing openings in the wall crown with cement mortar, e.g., by troweling with PCI Barraseal or PCI Pecimor 1K.

In masonry basements, it is common during the shell construction phase that the lowest row of stones is fully permeated by water standing on the basement floor. To prevent this unacceptable penetration, an intermediate waterproofing with PCI Barraseal or PCI Seccoral is necessary.

Transition Area between Floor Slab and Basement Wall

Before installing the chamfer, the area should be troweled with PCI Barraseal. This troweling should extend from the front side of the floor slab over the chamfer to at least the top edge of the first stone row, preventing water from back-penetrating into the PCI Pecimor 1K waterproofing. Unevenness, joint filling, mortar pocket sealing, chipping, or open joints larger than 5 mm can be filled with PCI Nanocret R2 or a mortar of mortar group C IV.

Substrate Preparation Materials

Materials used for substrate preparation, e.g., for chamfers or intermediate waterproofing, must be fully cured before starting waterproofing work.
