Tubag Paving Joint Mortar PFN 25kg

Tubag Paving Joint Mortar PFN 25kg

Hydraulically bound paving joint mortar for natural stone and concrete paving

  • Simple and efficient processing through Easy Clean Technology (ECT)
  • Water-impermeable
  • Compressive strength 25 N/mm2

Application areas

  • Suitable for use in traffic categories N1 and N2 according to ZTV Wegebau
  • For slabs with light traffic load with vehicles up to 35 t
  • For new jointing and repair
  • For decorative design of terraces, plazas, and paths
  • For the formation of drainage channels

Properties

  • Effectively prevents the risk of lime bloom
  • Good edge adhesion
  • Frost resistant
  • Low shrinkage
  • Single component
  • Effectively prevents weed growth in joints

Composition

  • Cement according to DIN EN 1971
  • Trass according to DIN 51043
  • Gradated quartz sands according to DIN EN 13139
  • Additives for controlling and improving processing and product properties

Substrate

Conditioning
  • When paving, the joint depth must be twice the joint width, but at least 30 mm for untrafficked slabs
  • An exception are ceramic and fine stoneware tiles laid in bonded construction, where the minimum joint depth is about 20 mm
  • For trafficked slabs, the joint depth must be at least two-thirds of the stone height, but at least 40 mm
  • Required minimum joint width: 5 mm
  • Maximum joint width: 25 mm
Pre-treatment
  • The required joint depth is created by blowing out or chipping out the joints
  • The paving surface must be thoroughly cleaned dry afterwards
  • The paving surface should be pre-wetted multiple times depending on absorption behavior, but no water should remain in the joints during mortar application
Temperature
  • Do not process or let dry at air and material temperatures below 5°C or above 30°C, in direct sunlight or strong wind

Preparation

Mixing
  • For manual mixing, first pour the specified amount of water into a clean container and add dry mortar
  • Use clean tap water
  • Mix the material with a suitable stirrer until homogeneous and free of lumps, then let it rest briefly and remix
  • Consistency should be slightly fluid and workable
  • For machine processing, adjust water addition to achieve workable consistency
  • Do not mix with other products or foreign substances

Processing

  • The joint mortar is applied by pressing it into the joints with a rubber float
  • Apply the mortar with a rubber trowel under slight pressure diagonally across the joint cross-section, ensuring the joints are fully sealed and filled to depth
  • Only minimal amounts should remain on the stone surface to facilitate cleaning
  • For joints with beveled edges, after cleaning, the joint mortar should only fill up to the underside of the bevel
  • Immediately after joint filling, clean the paving surface
  • Check the surface with a thumb test
  • Mortar residues on the stone surface must not dry out
  • Depending on absorption and surface design, cleaning can be done by:
Spraying
  • Depending on absorption, surface design, and temperature, curing time is approximately 1 to 3 hours
  • Clean the paving with a water hose spray nozzle and a stiff broom diagonally across the joints, taking care not to wash out the mortar from the joints
  • If the mortar tends to wash out, curing is not yet complete
  • Repeat the washing process until the residual film is completely removed
  • If necessary, remove remaining dirt with a high-pressure cleaner after complete curing
Washing
  • Depending on absorption and surface design, curing time is approximately 30 to 90 minutes
  • Clean the paving with a sponge board diagonally across the joints, ensuring the mortar does not wash out
  • If the mortar tends to wash out, curing is not yet complete
  • Regularly change the wash water
  • Repeat the washing process until the residual film is completely removed
  • If necessary, remove remaining dirt with a high-pressure cleaner after complete curing

Processing time

Processing time is approximately 15 minutes, based on 20°C and 65% relative humidity. Lower temperatures and high humidity extend processing times; higher temperatures and low humidity shorten them. Already stiffened mortar must not be diluted with additional water and processed further.

Drying and curing

Protection
  • The fresh mortar must be protected from rapid drying and adverse weather conditions such as frost, drafts, direct sunlight, and heavy rain, possibly by covering with foil
Foot traffic and load capacity
  • The paving can be walked on after about 3 hours and fully loaded after approximately 28 days
  • Time references are based on 20°C and 65% relative humidity
