Quality & Safety
- Quality monitored
- Mineral additives
- Substrate
The paving surfaces and the corresponding substructure must be constructed so that no loosening of the surface occurs under later loads. The relevant regulations and information sheets for the manufacture of paving surfaces must be observed. The entire structure must be water-permeable to allow infiltrating water to drain away. The minimum joint width for pointing with the pointing mortar is 3 mm. The minimum joint depth is 30 mm. An exception applies to ceramic and fine stoneware paving laid in bonded construction, where the minimum joint depth is approximately 20 mm. The stone edges must be free of all types of contamination. Before applying the mortar, the surface must be thoroughly pre-wetted. No water may stand in the joints.
Processing
The mortar is pre-mixed and ready to use. Cut open the vacuum plastic bag and pour onto the well-prewetted paving surface. To minimize the risk of staining, it is recommended to point the joints with PFF joint mortar using plenty of water. Sweep off remaining mortar residues on the surface with a soft broom diagonally to the joint direction. When using stones or slabs with beveled edges, the joint must only be filled up to the bottom edge of the bevel after cleaning. The paving must not fully dry out until the surface is completely cleaned. The surface must be carefully swept free of mortar residues, as unremoved components can be fixed by the heat of the adhesive and can only be cleaned mechanically afterwards. Residual gloss on the surface may fade over time. For particularly light and open-pored stone types, the binder may cause effects such as dark discoloration. It is recommended to create a test surface with the selected paving. Over time, color changes may occur due to dirt and weathering. When temperatures exceed 30°C or in strong wind, special measures such as shading should be taken.
Post-treatment
The freshly jointed surface should be protected from frost for 24 hours after processing. Heavy rainfall can wash out the joints in the fresh state. Therefore, cover the surface with a sheet if necessary. When using a protective sheet, ensure adequate ventilation. Do not place the sheet directly on the paving.
Load capacity
The paving surface can be walked on after approximately 24-48 hours depending on air temperature and can be fully loaded after about 7 days. These timeframes apply to processing at normal temperatures (around 20°C) and relative humidity of 65%.
