Test surface
On some natural and concrete stone slabs, contact between vdw 815 plus joint mortar and the stone surface may cause visual changes such as darkening and/or staining. We generally recommend creating a test surface. If necessary, we recommend using vdw 950 Steinschutz 3 in 1.
Preparation
- Clean the surface of the object to be jointed thoroughly, free of residues.
- Pre-wet the slabs thoroughly. When pre-wetting and cleaning, always use clean, cold tap water.
- Mixing the joint mortar: pre-mix mineral components, then add binder and mix homogeneously with a drill and paddle for about 3 minutes. Unmixed components must not be processed. Do not add water to the mixture.
Filling the joints
Immediately fill the joints with the mortar using a rubber trowel, preferably diagonally to the joint. The fluidity of the mortar can be increased with a water spray. During application, keep the surface constantly moist. It is recommended to work from the highest point in the direction of the slope, working downward.
Cleaning
Remove excess mortar immediately with a soft brush or sponge, using a gentle, continuous water spray until the surface is completely clean. Ensure cleaning is done in the direction of still-unjointed areas. Final mortar residues should be swept off with a damp coconut broom. Do not sweep mortar residues into still-open joints. Care must be taken to prevent residual water or mortar from remaining on the surface.
