PCI Pecilastic E Decoupling Membrane Under Ceramic and Natural Stone Coverings
- Formable, equalizes stresses, substrate deformations, and temperature fluctuations
- Crack-bridging, high safety even with subsequently appearing substrate cracks
- Ready for use, the decoupling membrane is only glued onto the substrate
- Quick workflow: after gluing the decoupling membrane, ceramic or natural stone coverings can be applied immediately
- Impact sound reducing: reduces room noise and impact sound of the installed ceramic or natural stone coverings
- Colors: green
- Delivery forms: 5m roll
Application Areas
- For interior use
- For floors
- Suitable for all formats of ceramic and natural stone coverings
- For moisture-sensitive absorbent substrates, e.g., chipboard, OSB boards, magnesite screeds, gypsum fiberboards, anhydrite screeds, or gypsum screeds
- For mineral absorbent substrates, e.g., concrete, screed, and lightly flowing leveling compounds, e.g., PCI Periplan
- For mineral non-absorbent substrates, e.g., old ceramic coverings, cast asphalt screeds, only indoors
- For liquid floor heating
- On young cement screeds, minimum quality CT F4, once they are walkable and sufficiently load-bearing
- On anhydrite screeds with residual moisture less than 2%, measured with CM gauge
Substrate Preparation
The substrate must be even, firm, clean, and load-bearing. Remove all stains, surfaces, and contaminants that reduce adhesion completely. The laying surface must be flush and plumb according to DIN 18202. Screeds must comply with DIN 18560 and be suitable for laying ceramic or natural stone coverings. When laying large-format tiles, prior leveling may be necessary.
Highly absorbent cement substrates should be primed with PCI Gisogrund 1, diluted with water 1:1. Sanded anhydrite or gypsum liquid screeds, gypsum-bound screed elements, and cast asphalt screeds should be primed with undiluted PCI Gisogrund. For time-sensitive work, cementitious and gypsum-containing substrates should be primed with PCI Gisogrund Rapid. Allow the primer to dry.
Anhydrite or gypsum liquid screeds must not have more than 2% residual moisture content, measured with CM gauge.
To Prevent Sound Bridges
Before laying PCI Pecilastic E, the joint in the wall-floor transition area and at pillars must be reworked with the self-adhesive edge strip PCI Pecitape Silent.
Old Floor Coverings
If old coverings such as carpets, PVC, or linoleum are to be replaced with ceramic or natural stone coverings, the old coverings must be removed, and loose adhesive residues must be thoroughly cleaned. The cleaned surface, including any remaining adhesive residues, should be fully coated with PCI Gisogrund. After drying, voids, cavities, or wide cracks should be filled with PCI Nanocret FC (1 to 10 mm) or PCI Nanocret R2 (3 to 100 mm). Residual adhesive residues must be completely removed or embedded with PCI Epoxigrund 390, including sandblasting with quartz sand (0.3–0.8 mm). If necessary, remaining unevenness can be leveled with PCI Periplan. The substrate must be even before laying PCI Pecilastic E membranes.
Old Ceramic, Stone, or Natural Stone Coverings
Prerequisite for laying PCI Pecilastic E on old ceramic or natural stone coverings is the secure adhesion of the existing covering. Hollow tiles must be removed, and voids filled with PCI Flexmörtel S1 Flott or PCI Nanocret R2.
Old Wooden Floors
The wooden construction must be sufficiently load-bearing, vibration-free, and free of swelling. Boards should be re-screwed as needed. Uneven boards should be leveled by injecting PCI Adaptol into the joints and waiting about 1 hour for a firm surface, or alternatively, by scratch filling with Periplan Tixo, mixing PCI Gisogrund 1 with water. The floor should be primed twice with PCI Gisogrund 404 (diluted 1:1 with water). After drying, level with PCI Periplan Extra. The subsequent work can be carried out the following day.
Substrate Preparation
When laying wood chipboard or OSB panels on old wooden floors, unevenness must be leveled as described above. The panels are screwed offset, with a maximum screw spacing of 40 cm, and must be glued. The panels should be primed with PCI Wadian. Allow the primer to dry.
Processing
Lay PCI Pecilastic E and cut to size with a utility knife or scissors.
- On the prepared substrate, apply PCI Flexmörtel S1 S1 Flott or PCI Flexmörtel S2, PCI Nanolight, or PCI Nanoflott Light according to technical standards, with a 4mm or 6mm notched trowel.
- For anhydrite screeds with residual moisture between 0.5% and 2%, PCI PAR 365 can be used for bonding PCI Pecilastic without primer or PCI Lastogum with prior priming with PCI Gisogrund, undiluted. Apply PCI Lastogum either by rolling or brushing thickly, or with a 4mm notched trowel.
- Within the open time of PCI Flexmörtel S1 S1 Flott, PCI Flexmörtel S2, PCI Nanolight, or PCI Nanoflott Light (about 30 minutes), lay the PCI Pecilastic E membranes and press them in, with the printed side of the fleece facing up.
- Seal the overlaps with adhesive tape, e.g., Tesakrepp, 20 mm wide.
- After the setting of the adhesive mortar, approximately 12 hours later, the top layer can be installed.
Laying Ceramic and Natural Stone Coverings on PCI Pecilastic E
- Suitable PCI laying mortars: PCI Carraflott NT, PCI Flexmörtel S1 S1 Flott, PCI Flexmörtel S2, PCI Nanolight, PCI Nanoflott Light
Joint Material
- PCI Carrafug, PCI DuraPox NT NT Plus, PCI Nanofug, PCI Nanofug Premium
Elastic Joints
For the arrangement of joints, the relevant guidelines of the Central Association of the German Construction Industry apply. Movement and connection joints in ceramic coverings are sealed with PCI Silcoferm S, and in natural stone coverings with PCI Carraferm elastically.
