PCI Antifreeze Additive for Masonry Mortar

Product features:

  • Accelerates hardening, reaching the critical strength of 5 N/mm2, at which concrete can no longer be damaged by freezing, in the shortest possible time
  • Chloride-free, contains no corrosion-promoting ingredients
  • Reduces the freezing point of fresh mortar

Colors: transparent
Packaging: 1kg canister

Application area:
Antifreeze for masonry mortar, screed, and concrete for the construction of non-load-bearing components
To improve workability at low temperatures

Processing of PCI Antifreeze:
Prepare mortar in a forced mixer, add PCI Antifreeze in the correct mixing ratio to the mixing water of the mortar. Do not pour undiluted PCI Antifreeze onto the mortar.
> In addition to using a suitable antifreeze, the following general rules must be observed during winter processing: Use at least 275 kg, preferably 300 kg of cement per m³ of compacted concrete. Only normal Portland cement should be used. Sulfate and clay cements are not suitable; cements with latent hydraulic components such as trass, fly ash, slag, or pozzolans develop strength slowly and require preliminary tests. Frozen aggregates must not be used. Frozen gravel/sand material must be thawed before use. The aggregate must be frost-resistant.

The concrete/mortar temperature during placement must be at least 5°C. At very low air temperatures and with cooled aggregates and cold water, it may be necessary to pre-warm the mixing water and possibly the aggregates. However, the temperature of the resulting mortar or concrete should not exceed 25°C to avoid excessive shrinkage.

Only as much mixing water should be added to the concrete as is necessary for proper compaction. This minimizes the amount of free water exposed to freezing, which is not needed for cement hydration.

Mortar and concrete should never be applied on frozen substrates. To prevent heat loss, concrete should be placed and compacted quickly.

Before formwork removal, the concrete's compressive strength must be checked. For thick components with significant internal heat development, the concrete temperature during formwork removal should be adjusted to the formwork temperature to avoid temperature stresses and cracking. The usual formwork removal time does not include frost days.

Please note:

  • Shake or swirl PCI Antifreeze before use
  • Do not use PCI Antifreeze with dry mortars
  • Undiluted PCI Antifreeze must not be poured onto the mortar
  • Compatibility testing must be performed before using PCI Antifreeze with additives
  • PCI Antifreeze is not suitable for mortars processed with natural stones
