SANDROPLAST Bitumen Cold Adhesive
Type of product
Flowable, cold-application, solvent-containing cold adhesive based on bitumen, suitable for strip or full-surface bonding of bitumen roofing and sealing membranes on concrete, screed, wood, and old cardboard roofs where immediate full adhesion of the adhesive film is not required. Full bonding strength is achieved only after complete evaporation of the solvent. On wooden roofs, the first layer of roofing felt must be nailed.
Properties
Sandroplast Bitumen Cold Adhesive softens bitumen roofing and sealing membranes easily, resulting in a good and complete bond. It contains solvent with a flash point above 23°C (DIN 52 213 Part 1).
Substrate
The substrate to be treated must be clean, dry, free of dust, and free of grease. Loose components must be removed. Defects should be repaired. A primer coat of sandroplast Bitumen Primer (approximately 250–300 ml/m²) should be applied beforehand.
Application
Sandroplast Bitumen Cold Adhesive is applied with a stiff brush, broom, or roller onto the cleaned and dried surface. Allow the adhesive to dry for approximately 15 to 30 minutes. Then, carefully roll out the pre-laid and back-rolled roofing membranes into the adhesive layer. For better processing, it is recommended to unroll the membranes some time before application. The curing time depends on the drying temperature and can take several days. Additional layers can only be applied after the complete drying of the adhesive film. Ensure that the membranes are rolled out without air bubbles and pressed firmly. If necessary, temporarily weight down until full adhesive strength is reached. In cold weather, the adhesive must be stored in a heated room before use. Full bonding strength is only achieved after complete evaporation of the solvent. For wooden roofs, nail the first layer of cardboard and only bond overlapping joints. On roofs without edge sealing, work with small amounts of adhesive in points or strips to prevent runoff or dripping at low points.
Processing temperature
10°C to 35°C. Suitable for roofs with a maximum slope of 5°. The DIN 18531 for roof waterproofing applies for processing.
Material consumption
The material consumption is approximately 10 l/m².
Storage conditions
Storage life in original, unopened containers is 12 months. The material is not frost-sensitive.
